Converts 110VAC to 220VAC or 220VAC to 110VAC
110/125 volt electricity is generated at 60 Hz (Cycles) Alternating Current. Foreign 220/250 volt electricity is generated at 50 Hz (cycles) Alternating Current. The difference in cycles may cause the motor in a 60 Hz US appliance to operate slower when used on 50 Hz foreign electricity. It will cause clocks and timing circuits using Alternating Current as a timing base to keep incorrect time. NOTE: Most modern electronic equipment will not be affected by the difference in cycles as these products internally adjust for cycle differences. Transformers and converters do not convert cycles. Products which are dependent on 60 Hz for speed control (clocks, turntables, etc.) will run slower operating at 50 Hz.
Having a higher wattage transformer than you need will not damage the equipment but if you cut too close a wattage transformer to the wattage your equipment draws you may blow fuses in the transformer especially on start up. I also find that appliances like grinders and blenders draw a surge of current on start up so get a heavier transformer to run them.
To find the axp. Watts transformer to buy look at your product and see if it lists the Amps it draws. Then multiply the Amps times the voltage it requires to get the Apx. wattage
